Open source, open access
The Sudan Open Archive is an expanding collection of documents covering all regions of Sudan. It has been developed by the Rift Valley Institute with support from UNICEF, UNEP and the Southern Sudan Centre for Census, Statistics and Evaluation. The Archive uses open-source Greenstone software, developed by DL Consulting. It can be accessed on computers running Windows, Unix or Mac OS/X. It is available online and also as a freestanding disk-based application on CD and DVD. The work of the Archive is guided by an international advisory board composed of area specialists and technical experts. Please download a prospectus here.
Using the Archive
Users can conduct full-text word searches across the Archive, using the SEARCH THE ARCHIVE box at the top left of each page. Type the search term(s) in the box and press return. Use double quotes to search for a phrase or word sequence. Detailed searches can be made with . Word searches within documents can be made using SEARCH THE DOCUMENT. A left-click opens a page of a document to full-screen view; a second left-click returns the page to normal view. There is optional search-term HIGHLIGHTING and THUMBNAIL page display. The button shows documents ordered under subject, date or author categories. All documents may be printed, or saved as PDFs.
Please inform the Co-ordinator of the Archive of any error or malfunction.
